Urgent News about Hard Drive Prices!!!

With the devastating floods in Thailand the electronics industry takes another hit! For the last couple of week we have been bombarded with massive price increases on all hard drives. The future looks bleak to say the least.  Western Digital lost 2 productions plants totaling 60% of their hard drive manufacturing, and Seagate lost 1 of their production facilities. This has rocked to computer industry causing massive shortages and massive price hikes.  I some cases we have seen a 300% price increase on the most common drives used on all desktops and laptops.

What does this mean: Computer prices are on the rise, with Japans Earthquake and now the floods it’s going to be unavoidable. This should be a somewhat short trend to carry into the 2nd Quarter of 2012. On a plus… We have already seen a trend of price drops on some of the high quality Intel designed Solid State Hard Drives.

Long term , this is going to be a refreshing look at desktop and mobile computing see solid state technology become more main stream and more cost effective for consumer products.  All we can say at this time is: “Short term pain for long term gain”.
